Is this course for me?

This course is aimed at those who have a grade D or equivalent and wish to achieve a grade C or higher, although applications are welcome from those with a grade C who wish to improve their grade further. Those who wish to study for fun are also welcome.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

The entry requirements for this course are: Grade D at GCSE Level 2 Basic Skills Literacy If you do not have the minimum required qualifications you will be asked to take a pre course assessment to determine if this is the correct course of study for you.

What does the course involve?

You will study a range of literature and language texts, including a Shakespeare play, a collection of poetry, a novel and a selection on media texts. You will examine the above texts from a literary and linguistic perspective, analysing how the writers have used language and literary devices to craft their texts. You will learn the skills required to create texts of your own, fulfilling the requirements of the specification.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? GCSE English is a requirement for all FE and HE courses, it is also a minimum requirement for many employment positions.
