The Diploma in Playwork covers the knowledge and skills needed when working un-supervised and requires the learner to demonstrate these in the workplace.
To achieve the full Diploma in Playwork, learners will need to complete a total of 65 credits. 46 credits must come from the mandatory units, including units from the Award and Certificate and a further 19 credits are required from a choice of 2 or 3 optional units.
This course is delivered online through the NEC Laser and you can study at your own pace. The interactive programme is easy to navigate, colourful and engaging and all completed work is recorded within your learner profile.
Units
- Understand playwork principles - 4 credits
- Understand children and young people's self-directed play - 5 credits
- Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people - 3 credits
- Understand the organisational framework for play - 4 credits
- Understand how to support positive outcomes for children and young people - 3 credits
- Understand relationships in the play environment - 3 credits
- Understand health, safety and security in the play environment - 2 credits
- Understand how to plan for and support children and young people's self-directed play - 5 credits
- Engage in personal development in health, social care or children's and young people's settings - 3 credits
Diploma Units
- Contribute to an organisational framework that reflects the needs and protects the rights of children and young people - 4 credits
- Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure play environment for children and young people - 3 credits
- Develop and promote positive relationships in the play environment - 3 credits
- Plan for and support children and young people's self-directed play - 4 credits
Entry requirements and hours of study
- There are no formal entry requirements but you will need to be at least 18 years of age and working or volunteering in a play environment.
- You will also need to be competent in using the internet and working with electronic documents.
- This course consists of 650 learning hours.

Assignments
Assessment will consist of a portfolio of evidence in different formats such as learning plans, assignments, discussion and direct observation in the workplace.
