Syllabus

Unit 1: Introduction to Play and Playwork

This unit will begin to address learning outcome 1 (stated above). This learning outcome will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will explore the Playwork Principles and the different types of play, research some theories of play, and consider the importance of play in learning and development for all ages.

Unit 2: Understand, develop and promote positive relationships in the play environment

This unit will focus on learning outcome 2 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research how you as a practitioner can promote positive outcomes for children and young people in play settings, explore the various methods of communication and the importance of effective communication in building and supporting relationships in the play environment.

Unit 3: An inclusive and challenging play environment

This unit will focus on learning outcome 3 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will learn how to promote and provide health, safety and security in the play environment while still enabling children and young people to explore risk. You will research the concept and provision of self -directed play and inclusive play for all children and young people.

Unit 4: The management and administration of a playwork provision.

This unit will focus on learning outcome 4 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research how to provide an organisational framework for play which includes understanding your legal responsibilities. You will explore children’s rights in respect of play, and the value of teamwork including working with parents and others.

Unit 5: Developing playwork provision and opportunities in the community.

This unit will focus on learning outcome 5 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research community play areas, organized opportunities in the community, urban and rural play areas and the creation of play spaces.

Unit 6: Reflective playwork practice.

This unit will focus on learning outcome 6 (stated above). This unit will be divided into a set of activities to guide your studies. In this unit you will research why and how to reflect, the importance of reflective practice for continuing professional development and for career progression.

Qualifications

On completion of your course, you will receive the dual award:

Award 1 is issued by Stonebridge Associated Colleges: Playwork Diploma

Award 2 is issued by our Awarding Body: Level 3 Playwork Award

At the end of this course successful learners will also receive a Level 3 NCFE Award Certificate of Achievement. Our course has been accredited under our NCFE IIQ Licence and the course measurable learning outcomes have been benchmarked at Level 3 (using Ofqual’s Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF) level descriptors) to allow you to consider the depth of study, difficulty, and level of achievement involved.

This award has been designed by Stonebridge Associated Colleges to meet specific learners' or employers' requirements. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality. Requirements for Entry

There is no experience or previous qualifications required for enrolment on this course. It is available to all students, of all academic backgrounds.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 90 hrs.
