Are you an outdoor enthusiast? Study the world of outdoor adventure on this popular two year course. Designed to develop your leadership and coaching skills, it includes a summer of work experience. This course is equivalent to three A Levels and is an ideal progression route into higher education or employment.
During the second year you will develop coaching and leadership skills with supporting modules in organising events and teaching young people in sport and outdoor adventure expeditions.

- Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport
- The physiology of fitness
- Principles and practices in Outdoor Adventure
- Fitness training and programming
- Equipment and facilities for Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
- Sports coaching
- Leading Land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
- Leading Water-based outdoor and adventurous activities
- Outdoor and adventurous expeditions
- Alternative pursuits for Outdoor Adventure
Practical content includes:
Kayaking, Canoeing, Caving, Climbing, Navigation, Ropes courses,
Problem solving, Orienteering, Practical sports, Expeditioning and
other adventurous activities.
You will also have the opportunity to gain other coaching and leadership qualifications, National Governing Body awards and Functional Skills.
Two year course. PLUS:
One day enrichment/Academy Day - students will have the opportunity to join the college Academy Day where they will receive additional coaching in their favourite activity.
One day a week work experience - students will be encouraged to find work experience to gain more experience in the industry.
Three days a week.
Entry Requirements
Minimum of four GCSEs at grade A*-C, including English and Maths. First Diploma / Level 2 Diploma at Merit Level. An enthusiasm for Outdoor Adventure. In order to top up to the Extended Diploma you will also need to complete the 90 Credit Diploma in Outdoor Adventure or the first year of a Subsidiary Diploma.
What Next?/Employment
Employment within the sports/outdoor adventure industry, progression onto the Outdoor Adventure Leadership, Professional Outdoor Instructor course or into higher education. This course is also ideal for someone considering going into the public services.

Full Time Further EducationYour learning is FREE if you are a UK or EU student, aged under 19 years on 31st August in the academic year you start your course.
Aged over 19?The cost of a full-time course for the academic year 2012/13 (starting September 2012) will be £1,250 per year.
