This second year course is suitable for anyone looking to pursue a career in the Public Services. The course is designed to be very 'hands-on' and you will be expected to maintain a level of fitness throughout.
Along with developing your leadership, teambuilding and communication skills through adventurous activities, the programme will also include written assignments and classroom work, so you will need to be disciplined in your time management. This course is designed to give a realistic approach to achieving a career within the uniformed public services.

Citizenship, Contemporary Society and the Public Services
Team Development in the Public Services
Physical Preparation and Fitness for the Uniformed Public Services
International Perspectives for the Uniformed Public Services
Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions
Skills for Land-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Skills for Water-based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities
Crime and its Effects on Society
Command and Control in the Uniformed Public Services
Planning for and Management of Major Incidents
Responding to Emergency Service Industries
Uniformed Public Services Employment
Fundamentals of Nautical Studies.

In addition you will achieve the following qualifications.
Level 2 BTEC Award in Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events
First Aid at Work
Personal Development for the Outdoor Industry
Food Hygiene Certificate

The course also includes nationally recognised additional qualifications in Sports Leadership and there will be an opportunity to gain National Governing Body Awards in Kayaking and Canoeing.

Three days per week at college
One day practical and two days of classroom and research.
You will be expected to find a work placement during the other two days whilst you are not at college.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of four GCSEs Grade A* - C including English and Maths or Level 2 Diploma at merit level. Related work experience.
Interest in outdoor adventure/sport/uniformed public services.
Minimum age 16.

Full Time Further EducationYour learning is FREE if you are a UK or EU student, aged under 19 years on 31st August in the academic year you start your course.

It is recommended that applicants set aside approximately £200 for additional NGB training, off-site activities / trips and essential kit. All Personal Protective Equipment will be provided.
There will be additional costs for Study tours and Expeditions. These can be discussed at interview.
