Description

This course is designed for anyone interested in pursuing a career in the music industry and will give you a chance to to develop your practical performance skills. The course will cover areas such as reading and writing music, composing, using a recording studio and specialist music software. You will need to attend gigs, and you will be involved in staging your own gig, for which you will be responsible for the marketing and publicity. Students will also follow other subject related qualifications with this course.

End Qualification:

BTEC Diploma in Music (Level 2).

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, preferably including English and Music. Alternatively, successful completion of a BTEC level 1 diploma at merit grade is also acceptable. You will be required to successfully pass an interview and audition with a demonstration of enthusiasm and commitment towards the subject area. Individual cases will be considered on their own merits.

Assessment:

The work on the course is project/assignment based, and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment. Each unit will be assessed and awarded with a final grade of pass, merit or distinction. The course is completed with a final major project and live performance.

Progression from this course:

The course is equivalent to four GCSEs at grade A* - C. Successful completion of this course (at merit grade), will allow you to progress to the two year Extended Diploma in Music (subject to a successful audition and satisfactory progress review). You may also be able to go directly into employment at junior level connected with the entertainment industry.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. Students will be required to supply your own head phones, instruments and recording materials.

Additional Information:
