What does the course include?
This course will enable employed, as well as voluntary, teaching assistants to develop the knowledge and skills needed to support teaching and learning in schools.
The course will cover 9 mandatory units and 2 optional units leading to a total of 30 credits.
Units covered will include safeguarding, health and safety, child and young person’s development, communication, supporting learning activities, equality, diversity & inclusion as well as promoting positive behaviour.
This City and Guild’s QCF qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards which sets out best practice for the role of teaching assistants.

What do I need to get on this course?
All learners will need to be working or volunteering in the classroom. If volunteering, a minimum of 6 hours is necessary. Good levels of literacy are required. This will be assessed by an initial assessment before starting the course.
Learners must be 19+ years in order to enrol on this course.
How will I be assessed?
The course is work based. After the initial course induction, all further underpinning knowledge and tutor meetings will take place weekly in the workplace on a one-to-one basis flexible to the learners needs.
Experienced Assessor’s will judge the learner’s competency
within the school environment through observation and work
products.
Learners must be 19+ years in order to enrol on this course.
Where does it lead?
On completion of this qualification, you may decide to study towards the Level 3 course in the future.
