The training includes: *Maintaining environments, instruments and equipment for clinical dental procedures *Providing chair-side support during various dental procedures *Contributing to producing dental images *Basic life support *Health and Safety *Dental charting *Oral health education Skills and attributes you need: *Good interpersonal skills *Good communication skills *Suitable level of physical fitness for some aspects of the role (standing for long periods) *Ability to work in small teams, listening and contributing towards decision-making and practice *A positive, non-judgemental and open-minded attitude *Good standard of literacy and numeracy Starting Salary (once qualified): £14,000 - £20,200 depending on location within the UK Qualifications you gain: There are a number of elements to an apprenticeship and this is called the framework. The apprenticeship framework has three main strands - technical element, competence based element and skills element. For this apprenticeship the qualifications gained will be:- Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 Award in Employment and Personal Learning Skills in Health Functional Skills at Level 2 in English and Mathematics Assessment: You will be required to compile an online portfolio of evidence demonstrating your knowledge and competence and in order to gain part of the qualification a period of day release every two weeks will be required. All assessments will take place in the workplace and an assessor will guide and support you to achieve this qualification. Is this for me? Apprenticeships are open to all age groups above 16 years of age, whether you are just leaving school, seeking to start a new career or are moving into a new role with your existing employer that requires new skills. As an apprentice you will earn a salary, whilst working alongside experienced colleagues at work and studying for your qualification. Entry CriteriaThis apprenticeship is open to individuals of any age who have GCSE grade A - C in English and Mathematics. A minimum of six months' work experience is required before starting this programme. All applicants are assessed at interview to ensure correct level of study. Prior qualifications or experiences in a relevant job will be taken into consideration.
Progression DetailsAfter completion of this apprenticeship, there is excellent career progression potential in other dental team roles, such as dental therapy and hygiene, related health roles such as nursing and radiology, oral health promotion and training/educator roles.
Success InformationGloucestershire College were awarded the 'Gloucestershire Apprenticeships Provider of the Year' Award at the inaugural Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Awards in 2012. We are the largest apprenticeship training provider in the county and currently work with over 1100 apprentices.
