Art and Design Foundation Studies Level 3

This is an intensive one-year, post A Level course, which gives you the opportunity to explore the many areas of art and design before choosing an area in which to specialise. The course is geared towards the preparation of a portfolio of work to support your application to an advanced course - or in gaining employment. Throughout the course your practical studio work will be supported by a programme of studies in the history of art and design. This course demands a high degree of discipline and self-motivation. The course gives you a broad foundation across a wide range of disciplines in art, design and media, before you explore an area that interests you in much greater detail. You will have a dedicated studio workspace for you to come into college five days a week for the year. The academy recognises, develops and improves skills opportunities for those entering the creative and cultural sector and those already employed within it. This status means that students at Gloucestershire College get exciting opportunities to develop their employability skills and links within the industry.

Minimum age is 18 years. Up to three A Levels or equivalent qualification in a creative subject. A Levels to include at least one art and design area, supported by a minimum of three GCSE passes at grade C or above, or equivalent. All applicants will be required to attend an interview and submit a portfolio containing drawings.

The course prepares you for entry to higher education within the art and design sector and also for initial entry into art or design careers.

GC Awarded Artsmark Gold! Gloucestershire College Creative Arts Academy recognised by the Arts Council for quality arts education. In 2012 Arts Council England announced the year’s successful Artsmark education providers, and for the first time these included 18 Further Education Colleges, of which 14 are Founder Colleges of the National Skills Academy for Creative & Cultural. Gloucestershire College, which has recently celebrated its Founder College status, was one of the few colleges to be granted the Artsmark Gold status. The Artsmark is a national award that accredits quality arts education. It is the Arts Council England’s flagship programme to enable schools, further education colleges and youth justice settings to audit, celebrate and develop high quality arts education. It is a key driver in their aim to ensure every child and young person has the opportunity to experience the richness of the arts.
