This course plays an important part as a stepping stone from school to Further Education and for many students will be the first step towards Higher Education and a career in Art and Design. Your time at college will be studio-based. Learning activities include structured sessions, specialist workshops and practical sessions. Much of your learning is gained through project work which addresses different aspects of the art and design process. Trips to galleries and museums are also incorporated into the programme in order to enrich the learning experience.

You will study 8 modules over the year, including: • Contextual References in Art and Design. • 2D and 3D visual communication. • Working with Visual Arts Briefs. • Using ideas to Explore, Develop and Produce Art & Design. • Building an Art & Design Portfolio. • Working in the Art and Design Industry.

The qualification awarded is the BTEC Diploma in Art & Design Level 2 and Functional Skills qualification in English. You will also improve the wider skills vital for success in further study or employment, including self-confidence, speaking in front of others, working with others, taking responsibility and managing your time. By the end of the course you will have benefited from a valuable insight into future careers open to you.

Either a Foundation Certificate in related subject, 4 or more GCSE grades D-G, preferably with grade D in English (although candidates with grade E will be considered), related work experience, other related level 1 or 2 qualifications. If you have grades outside the entry requirements, you are still welcome to apply.

On successful completion of the course you can progress to a Level 3 course within Banbury and Bicester College including BTEC Extended Diploma in Art and Design, Graphic Design, Photography or Fashion.

You will study from the workshops and studios in our new creative arts centre.
