This course is for young people with autistic spectrum disorders. The Supported Education Employability programme helps to develop personal and social skills, and skills for independence for life and living. This course is delivered in a small supported environment at our Centre for Autistic Learners (CAL) on the Blackbird Leys campus.

Topics covered include: Social communication, time and money, health and safety, cooking and healthy eating, gardening, developing ICT skills, assistance with making choices, developing confidence and self esteem, and independent living skills.

This course is for young people with autistic spectrum disorders. The Supported Education Employability programme helps to develop personal and social skills, and skills for independence for life and living. This course is delivered in a small supported environment at our Centre for Autistic Learners (CAL) on the Blackbird Leys campus.

Individual learning targets are set each term and you will receive regular feedback on your progress in meeting these targets. For each subject you will with support create a folder that evidences all of the things you have learned. For assessment we use photos written work and witness statements to describe what you have done and achieved.

You learn in small groups in a range of settings so you can develop your independence confidence and social skills. Lessons are very practical. You have access to all of the resources in the CAL Centre such as the kitchen, garden, ICT suite and art room.

You gain the following: Certificate in Life Skills, Certificate in Communication, Award in Maths Skills, Award in ICT Skills.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However your offer will be subject to an observation in your current educational setting and a successful transition period from year 11. Where possible transition arrangements or a short taster day at the CAL centre will be arranged so that you can meet the staff team and we can discuss your needs. If you have a Special Educational Needs (SEN) statement we will consider it alongside your S139a and reports from other agencies. This is to ensure that we can effectively meet the needs indicated.

Successful completion of this course can lead to further courses within the CAL Centre. You will continue to build on your existing skills and develop further skills in independence for life and living.
