This programme is made up of the Certificate in Preparing to
Work in Health & Social Care, the Diploma in Health &
Social Care, Employment Rights and Responsibilities and, if
necessary, Functional Skills in Maths and English. It is a day
release programme which means you will come to college one day a
week and the rest of the time you will be learning in your
workplace. Employment Rights and Responsibilities looks at your
rights as an employee and is covered at the start of the

The Certificate in Preparing to Work in Health & Social Care is
the theory component of this programme whilst the Diploma is the
practical assessment of the content covered in the Certificate and
other units that specifically relate to the service user group you
work with.
If you do not have a GCSE at C Grade or equivalent Level 1
qualification in Maths and English you will also need to do
Functional Skills Maths and English as part of this programme.
The Programme Content
A Health & Social Care Apprenticeship is a package of courses that are completed on a day release basis. To be able to be considered for this you need to have a contract of employment with an employer who is prepared to give you the day release to attend college once a week.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific academic requirements for this course.
You will need to be employed as an Apprentice with a suitable
organisation who are happy to support you through the
programme.
Costs
This programme is free to you as a student. Depending on your age there may be course costs that have to be paid by your employer. Some employers ask their staff to pay some of these costs and this varies between organisations.

Progression
On successful completion of a Level 2 Health & Social Care Apprenticeship your employer may continue to employ you and offer other courses and training.
Length of Study
Approximately 12 months.
DBS Checks
As this course requires you to undertake work placements with children and/or vulnerable adults, a DBS check (formerly CRB check) is required. This will be carried out by Petroc prior to you starting the course in September and costs £53. Please click on the following link for
