Media Level 2 Diploma

Study a range of media such as video, radio and print and learn skills in audio computer and animation technology on this one-year Diploma in Media. The course helps you to build your media knowledge through practical work and projects in preparation both for work and further study.

Work on the BTEC Diploma in Media is done through several projects which include the production of:
• a news report
• a radio broadcast
• a stop-frame animation
• a DVD cover
• a film (which is your final major project)

You learn a range of skills that will help you to undertake research projects give presentations interview people, question members of the public, complete production paperwork, organise productions, work as part of a production team, write reports and take notes in class and on visits.

All coursework is assessed throughout the year. In total you will complete about 15 assignments. To succeed you need to work hard consistently and submit assignments by their deadlines.

To complete this course you will be required to use a variety of skills working both in groups and individually. The course is 100% coursework based featuring both written and practical assignments. Written assignments include a study of media jobs, an analysis of factual production in the media, a study of a wide range of print techniques, writing a script for a film and an analysis of film audiences.

In addition to the BTEC Diploma in Media you will gain a range of life skills. They include contributing to discussions talking to an audience interview techniques telephone manner writing skills cooperating with others and working independently

Applicants for a Level 2 programme will normally have:
- At least 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above and/or a completed Level 1 award
- GCSEs to include English and Maths at Grade D or above or Level 1 Functional Skills qualifications
- The willingness to study for an additional qualification in English and/or Maths

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

You may have the opportunity to progress on to the Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production at City of Oxford College or another related Level 3 course.
