AS Level focuses on small businesses and how to start and manage a small enterprise. It incorporates all the elements of a business plan - finance, people, operations and marketing. It goes on to examine how to manage that business and improve the effectiveness of the four functional areas. A2 builds on AS and transfers those concepts to big business, looking at strategies to make big business successful in the global marketplace. It examines the external environment in detail and managing change. How will I be Taught? The subject is delivered over 2 sessions per week, one AM and one PM. Students will experience a variety of teaching and learning methods such as group work, presentations, teacher led exposition, research projects, film, televisual and print based media and topic related trips, visits and study conferences where appropriate. Students are expected to complete 5 hours of homework per week in addition to the 4.5 hours class time. How will I be Assessed? Both AS and A2 level are assessed by 2 exams in May/June of each year. BUSS1, BUSS2 and BUSS3 are data response questions, requiring students to assess a fictional business and answer a range of knowledge, application, analysis and evaluation questions. BUSS4 is two research based extended essays. What our students say? "Studying business provides the skills and ability to interpret business news & enables you to understand what is going on around you. Before studying Business, I was unaware of the significance of news items. Now I want to study Business in more detail and make an impact myself."
