The Access to Higher Education Diploma is an intensive course which
allows students to study whilst still working or meeting other
commitments. The course is intended to provide a qualification
equivalent to A Level (Level 3) and is recognised by Universities
and other Higher Education providers as sufficient for entry to
related degree courses such as social work or nursing. Students
will study units based around health related psychology, the

passionate subject specialists. What will I Study? Units will
include: in Sociology - Inequalities in Health, Health and Society,
The Sociology of Health and Understanding Mental Health
Difficulties; in Psychology - Early Social Development, Conformity
and Obedience, Psychopathology and Therapies and Understanding
Stress; in Physiology - Cell Biology, Human Health and Disease,
Human Cardiac and Respiratory Systems and Human Body Systems.
Students will complete the course with a 6000-word Extended
Project, a detailed investigation and report on a health-related
subject of their choice concentrating on just one of the units
(sociology, psychology or physiology); this will include working
with a dedicated specialist-mentor and will cover 6 weeks between
May and June 2015. How will I be Taught? Students will attend 1
3-hour lecture in Sociology a week; 1 3-hour lecture in Psychology
a week and 2 3-hour lectures in Physiology a week. There will also
be a dedicated hour a week to meet with the Course Leader to
discuss any ongoing issues or concerns. One-to-one tutorials will
take place with each of the lecturers on a regular basis. How will
I be Assessed? Students will be assessed using methods which
include 1500-2000-word essays, 1500-2000-word reports, group
presentations, subject-specific examinations and through the
creation of leaflets/posters. There is no end-of-course exam; the
Extended Project forms the basis of the final assessment. What our
