The Foundation Degree in Sport, Health and Exercise has been designed to provide students with a thorough grounding in key areas of sport, coaching, health and fitness, including the physiological, psychological and social aspects of these disciplines. A key element of the course is it's strong vocational aspect and students are frequently required to place their work based learning into a scientific academic context.

Successful completion of the programme leads to the award of a UEA Foundation Degree and provides students with the opportunity of spending a further year completing a BSc (Hons) Applied Sport Health and Exercise which is also a UEA Degree.

The course is available as a full-time or part-time mode of study.

Course Code: F0020 Minimum Age: 17 Start Date: 02/09/2013 End Date: 26/06/2015 Course Length: Two Years Full Time/Three Years Part Time Course Schedule: Two full days a week Entry Requirements:

Normally at least one A Level in a science-based subject with four appropriate supporting GCSE passes (A-C), including at least one Science and Maths.BTEC National Certificates, Diplomas and Extended Diplomas normally completed at merit grade, GNVQ Advanced, AVCE, or an accredited access certificate.

We welcome applications from mature (over 21) students who have relevant experience or alternative qualifications.

Core Skills:

You will study a mix of core and programme-specific modules - a total of 14. Core modules include: Higher Learning Skills; Individual in the Sports, Health and Exercise Sector; Advanced Higher Learning Skills, Skills for Work 1 & 2. Specialist subjects include: Coaching and Leadership skills, Advanced sports coaching, Exercise physiology, Introduction to Sports massage, Sports injuries and rehabilitation,Sports psychology,Sport and Exercise Nutrition and Laboratory techniques.

Assessment:

Your work will be assessed through a mix of written assignments, both individually and as part of a group, learning diaries/logs, presentations, time-constrained exercises, practical assessments, open and closed book exams and conventional essays.

Academic Progression:

This programme provides a solid route for progression to a full honours degree. FdSc graduates may also progress to the BSc (Hons) Applied Sport, Health and Exercise (UEA) or to the BA (Hons) Professional Studies (UEA). Alternatively, if suited you could look to complete a Top Up year at another University.

Methods of Teaching and Learning

A mix of workshops, lectures, seminars, tutorials, presentations and self directed study, again with emphasis on linking industry practice to scientific theory.
