Course Level: 1 Time NeededThe course is for one day a week. In 2012-13 this will be on a Tuesday for Years 10 and 11. Attendance is required from 10am-2.30pm.
Course DescriptionThe aim is to meet the needs of learners who wish to work and develop a career within the sport and active leisure sector. At level 1 Learners will be encouraged to participate in a wide range of sport and active leisure activities. The level 2/3 will give learners a solid foundation in the sector, enabling them to develop essential skills required for gaining employment, securing career progression, or progressing to further qualifications and training required to achieve their career aspirations.

Units include:
- Setting up, maintaining and storing equipment and facility areas
- Deal with accidents and emergencies
- Service and customer care
- Planning fitness programmes
- Planning and preparing sessions
- Lead activities within a session
Functional Skills
You will also work towards nationally recognised functional
qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.
The teaching and assessment of these subjects is usually embedded in the practical subjects covered.
A small amount of paperwork is needed for the student’s portfolio although most of the assessment is through practical observations.
ProgressionSuccessful learners may progress to a full time post 16 Level 2 programme, Apprenticeship or employment.
All progression routes are reliant upon the student reaching certain levels in Literacy and Numeracy.
