This qualification will be taken by those deemed to be in the Associate Teacher Role (see below for a description of this role). City College will offer the qualification at both 4. The programme will run from September 2012 to mid-summer term. Candidates with PTLLS alreday will join in November

The Certificate requires at least 30 hours of teaching practice, therefore applicants must be in a teaching role. You should have a qulaification at least at level 3 in the subject you are teaching and level 2 in English and Maths. If you have PTLLS alreday, you can join the course in November

Core Skills:

You will understake units which focus on planning, delivery and assessment of learning to meet individual and group needs.

Elements of the

Minimum Core of Literacy, Language and Numeracy

will be embedded in this qualification.

Assessment:

Assessed via written theoretical work plus practical teaching and observation of this practice.

Career Progression:

The associate teacher role:This is defined by LLUK as carrying fewer teaching responsibilities than the full role, but the quality of teaching is expected to be of an equally high standard. Someone is deemed to be in an Associate Teacher Role if their role and responsibilities are to teach predominantly in at least one of the following ways:

• from packs/pre-prepared materials, and therefore has fewer responsibilities in design of curriculum and materials
• on a one to one basis
• programme confined to a particular level/subject/type of learner (i.e. does not develop or deliver a full range across a curriculum area)
• short courses
