Independent Living Skills courses are designed to help learners with learning difficulties to develop the skills needed for everyday life and work. Students on this Life Skills – Entry 1 level course follow a core curriculum that includes Basic Skills, Life Skills, Practical Skills and enrichment. Practical routes include Cookery, Horticulture, Animals, Arts and Crafts.

We offer a person centred approach to assessment and will select the most appropriate assessment method to meet each learner’s individual needs. Each student has a personal learning plan (PLP) and receives regular 1:1 support from their tutor.

What qualifications you need

The course is intended for applicants aged 16-25, with moderate or severe learning difficulties who are working at Entry 1 level. All applications are considered on an individual basis and offers are based on interview and a range of supporting evidence.


Where to next

Each course takes 1-2 years. Learners can enrol for a maximum of 2-4 years. In most cases learners will complete year 1 of the course and then continue their studies by completing Year 2. However, each course can also be followed as a 1 year programme. On completion students can enter supported employment or progress to the next level at Entry 2.
