Construction and the Built Environment

This is a two year part-time programme where you will come into college for one full day and evening per week over two years.

The course is made up of 12 units :-

All students study these 12 units

Year 1

• Health Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment
• Sustainable Construction
• Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment
• Science and Materials in Construction and the Built Environment
• Construction Technology and Design in Construction and the Built Environment
• Surveying in Construction and the Built Environment

Year 2

• Building Technology
• Graphical Detailing
• The Underpinning Science for the Provision of Human Comfort
• Building Surveying
• Cad in Construction
• Project Management in Construction and the Built Environment

There will be lots of opportunities for visits to Construction Sites and Building/Sustainable exhibitions within the region

You need at least one of the following:-

• A BTEC Level 2 Merit or Distinction Grade portfolio
• At least four GCSEs at Grades A*-C
• Equivalent qualifications will be considered

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment is a practical work related qualification available to a wide range of students built to accommodate the needs of employers and allow progression to University. It provides a practical, real world approach to learning alongside a key theoretical background

Day release – one full day and evening per week over two years

Assessment Students are continually assessed through coursework assignments

The qualification is mapped to several courses in Higher Education at the University Centre at Blackburn College. This provides an easy progression route for the subject chosen and gives you a strong foundation for degree level study.
