Description

This qualification introduces you to and develops your existing skills in a wide range of art and design disciplines. These experiences help you decide upon your areas of strength enabling you to specialise in the latter part of the year. You will experience exciting introductions to the specialist areas of Fine Art, Photography, Graphic Design and Illustration, Textiles, Fashion and 3D Design, including furniture design, product design and spatial design. Following successful completion of the Subsidiary Diploma you are eligible to progress on to year 2, the Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

Course content

This qualification is designed to develop your art and design work on to a higher level and give you an insight into potential careers within the Visual Arts. A series of individual projects will introduce you to the specialist areas.

  • 3D Design including Product, Furniture, Spatial Design, and Ceramics
  • Graphic Design and Illustration

Entry Requirements

A minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Mathematics (or equivalent) plus a portfolio of art work or First Diploma in Art and Design with Merit grade. Students with a Pass grade will be considered subject to an additional assessment and/or supporting reference from tutor/school.

Delivery & Assessment methods

Delivery is developed through a series of creative skills building classes and integrated projects progressively developing your knowledge, independence and personal identity as an artist or designer. The FEED initiative provides award winning collaborative opportunities through high profile visiting speakers , special workshops and events. Assessment is through project grading at Pass, Merit and Distinction levels.

Progression

The opportunity to progress to the CREATIVE CAREERS in ART & DESIGN (Extended Diploma in Art and Design) or Employment.
