Entry Requirements

  • 200 GCSE entry points including English at Grade C, or have a Level 2 Diploma at Merit level
  • A portfolio of examples of your art, technology or design work at interview
  • We also welcome applications from students with relevant experience or qualifications - please ask when you apply

What will I be doing on the course?

  • Designing, building and installing display schemes
  • Merchandise handling techniques and display theory
  • Designing and producing display graphics and client presentations
  • Specialist contextual studies and visual studies

How will I be assessed?

You will complete 9 BTEC units in Year 1, through a series of course related assignments.

An additional 9 units are completed in Year 2 to attain the National Diploma.

What will I need?

  • You will need to purchase a kit when you start the course : the approximate cost is £110.
  • Course related visits : approximate total cost is £60.
  • Work placement (Year 2) : travel costs dependant on location.
  • Additional materials and equipment : approximate weekly cost is £12.

What can I do next?

  • Employment in the display, exhibition, prop-making, theatre or events industry
  • Higher Education at HRC : Foundation Degree in Visual Merchandising or 3D Design
  • University : Degree courses in Theatre Studies, Interior Design, Events Design or Museum and Exhibition Design

Additional Activities

Our enrichment programme includes visits to galleries, trade exhibitions and London stores, with additional activities organised by Student Services. In the second year, dependant on your progress, you will attend two weeks work placement with a major retailer. Functional English and Maths are an integral part of the course.
