Course DescriptionSuccessful completion of the Certificate along with appropriate functional skills will enable students who have not previously been able to access the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (DVN) programme. The Award and Certificate also allow the development of fundamental knowledge for those who wish to work as reception or lay staff within a practice.

Entry RequirementsEntrance to the course is by interview, there are no formal qualification requirements, however you should be working at Level 1. This course is suitable if you are:
- A school leaver (at least 16 years of age) with insufficient GCSEs to register as a DVN programme
- A school leaver with sufficient GCSE requirements, but not yet ready to undertake the DVN course
- A school leaver unsure of your chosen career but keen to work in an animal-related industry
- Changing your career
- Employed within a veterinary practice
- Seeking understanding of veterinary work without necessarily completing the full qualification. A choice of individual modules can be studied.
- Principles of basic animal nursing assistance
- Companion animal anatomy and physiology
- Infection control for animal nursing assistants
- Delivery of basic treatments to animals
- Maintenance of animal accommodation
- Provision of feed and water to animals
- Principles of companion animal pharmacy
- Companion animal nutrition, parasitology and zoonosis
- Companion animal anaesthesia and fluid therapy
Successful candidates may progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing programme.
