The three areas of specialisation are:
Livestock Production
Evidence is based on a specific class of livestock. You will be
required to keep records and order supplies, maintain effective
working relationships, promote the healthy performance of stock,
alongside performing daily routines and stock tasks.
Crop Production
You will be required to keep records and order supplies, operate
tractors and maintain machinery, prepare for planting, promote
healthy growth of crops, and harvest and store crops.
Mixed Farming
This is a combination of the above two Diplomas, including: keeping
records and ordering supplies, tractor operation, promoting the
healthy performance of stock and healthy growth of crops,
harvesting and storage of crops, and livestock husbandry from
conception to weaning.
Functional Skills
You will also gain nationally recognised functional skills
qualifications (English, Maths and ICT). In addition Emergency
First Aid plus one other legislative or nationally recognised
occupational test relevant to the industry will be completed.
Successful apprentices may wish to progress to Level 4 or to a full time programme at Bicton College such as the Foundation Degree in Agricultural Management. The Advanced Apprenticeship certificate is recognised by the Agricultural Wages Board with its own pay banding, giving craftsman status.
