You will also be assessed through online and written exams, as well as assignments for each topic you study at college.You will be expected to pass Functional Skills at Level 2 in maths, English and ICT.
What will I study?
As part of your advanced apprenticeship you will study the following:VCQ Level 3 covering health and safety, workshop practice,
steering, suspension, braking systems, and vehicle electrics e.g.
lighting, starting and charging systems, engine and transmissions,
ignition systems etc.
VRQ theory aspects of all the above topics at college on a day
release basis
Functional Skills Level 2 Maths
Functional Skills Level 2 English
Functional Skills Level 2 ICT
Employees' Rights and Responsibilities
Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
What does the course lead to?
As a technician with a recognised qualification. you could gain employment in role relating to light vehicle/motorcycle maintenance and repair. With further training you can become an MOT tester.What can I go on to study?
Level 4 qualifications in management (such as a HNC or foundation degree).Entry requirements
You must have achieved a level 2 apprenticeship (intermediate) in the same subject area to progress onto the advanced apprenticeship.You must also be in an employed position that involves the full range of maintenance repair tasks required to achieve this qualification.
How much does it cost?
If you are between the age of 16 and 18 the apprenticeship is free of charge. If you are 19 and above your employer must pay a one off fee.During your apprenticeship your employer is obliged to pay you a wage at the minimum rate for an apprentice.
