Description

This programme is for those childcare workers who are employed working in children's residential establishments in a senior position for example Manager, Deputy Manager or Lead practitioner. You will receive underpinning knowledge on an individual or small group basis relating to the requirements for the assessment of the units and receive assessments in your place of work. All of the assessments are planned on an individual basis and these vary according to your role within the workplace.

How long is the course?

This is a two-year course although some students complete their studies well within this timeframe.

How will I be assessed?

This Level 5 diploma consists of a variety of units which are assessed either by being observed in practice in the setting or are knowledge-based set written assignments.
Evidence for each unit is gathered using a selection of different methods including being observed in practice by an allocated assessor, answering written questions and producing written evidence of practice and knowledge.

What will I study?

Best practice requirements of the sector around a variety of subjects some of which are shown below:

Use and develop systems that promote communication
Promote professional development
Champion equality, diversity and inclusion
Develop health and safety and risk management policies, procedures and practices in children and young people's settings
Understand children and young people's development
Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the safeguarding of children and young people.

Entry requirements

You must be 19 years of age or over and be able to study at a Level 5 and be employed in a residential children's establishment as a senior practitioner/manager. You must be proficient in literacy and numeracy.

You must undertake an interview and have two satisfactory references.

How much does it cost?

The costs for academic year 2011-2012 are £1,250. Start dates are agreed on an individual basis.
