Hairdressing and Salon Management Foundation Degree

This vocational programme will allow you to develop your existing skills in hairdressing and complement them with the knowledge and ability to manage a salon.

Description

The programme will prepare you for senior level roles with a sound foundation in business and management principles. It will also enhance the development of the skills and knowledge that are essential for a successful career in salon management today.

This programme is validated by the University of Derby.

How long is the course?

Two years. Attendance is normally 7-10 hours per week at college and the completion of a work placement if you are not employed in an appropriate setting.

You will also need to dedicate a substantial amount of time to research and work outside the classroom.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment methods are varied and may include written reports, examinations, presentations, case studies, individual/group projects and reflective statements. Where modules are work-related, assessment will relate to your own organisation (where appropriate) and/or vocational setting.

What does the course lead to?

Upon completion of the programme you will be able to apply for management positions in salons with the skills and knowledge you have gained and developed on the foundation degree.

Completed foundation degrees are worth 240 CATS points in line with the UK universities’ credit accumulated transfer scheme.

What can I go on to study?

Successful completion of this foundation degree at merit level means you are eligible to apply to the top-up BA (Hons) Hairdressing Salon Management at the University of Derby (Buxton) or BA (Hons) Business Management at Vision West Nottinghamshire College, subject to entry requirements.

Entry requirements

You will need to have an NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing, a BTEC National Diploma in Hairdressing at pass level or any other equivalent diploma in hairdressing.

Applicants without recent qualifications but who can demonstrate substantial, relevant experience through employment will be interviewed. You will also be expected to possess literacy skills at Level 2.
