Description

The emphasis on both theory and practice at Chichester encourages creativity and enables our students to become thinking, articulate dance practitioners. The course is carefully designed to guide students towards potential career options in a variety of dance related fields. All modules are designed to facilitate learning in the subject content as well as providing transferable and personal management skills.

  • Dance Technique 1b
  • Choreography 1: Introduction to Improvisation and Composition
  • Choreography 2: Compositional Approaches and Devices
  • Reading and Writing about Dance
  • Contexualising Dance
  • Dance Portfolio

In second year (level 5) students continue to study core modules in choreography, technique and theory; however, they also select two modules based on their future career aspirations and/or interests.

Compulsory/core modules at level 5 include:

  • Dance Technique 2a
  • Dance Technique 2b
  • Choreography 3: Structures and Concepts
  • Choreography 4: Practice Performance and Research
  • Critical Lenses and Identities
  • Research Methodologies

Optional/choice MODULES AT LEVEL 5 include:

  • Popular Dance: Street, Stage and Screen
  • Dance Journalism
  • Performance and Technology
  • Performance and Place
  • Repertory
  • Improvisation and Performance
  • The Dancer’s Body
  • Body Stories

Our third year programme (level 6) provides a coherent stream of study by guiding our students into subject strands. Thus, students are able to tailor their programme further; the programme, therefore, caters for a variety of student outcomes.

COMPULSORY STRANDS AT LEVEL 6 INCLUDE:

  • Dance Technique 3a
  • Dance Technique 3b
  • Dance Dissertation

OPTIONAL/CHOICE STRANDS AT LEVEL 6 INCLUDE (students choose two strands):

  • Dance Production (3-Fall Dance Company)
  • Dance Criticism AND Body Politics
  • Dance Movement Psychotherapy 1 AND Dance Movement Psychotherapy 2
  • Choreographic Projects, Choreography and Mobile Technologies, Interdisciplinary Arts AND/OR Postmodern Practice (Students are offered two of these options)
  • Teaching Dance Technique AND Teaching Dance and Creative Practice
  • Dance Placement
