The advanced animal behaviour course is designed to fit into the National Qualifications framework at level 3-4. This course would be ideal for anyone working in the Animal care sector or who has completed our Level 2 course in Animal Behaviour.

At UK Open Learning we pride ourselves on our friendly and supportive tutors. Your tutor support will start as soon as you receive your course and will be valid for 12 months. All our tutors are highly qualified with extensive experience in supporting distance learning students. You contact your tutor via email and they are responsible for marking assignments answering your questions and guiding you through the course to ensure you are ready for your examinations.

To enable student to complete this course they must have done either done a level 2 course in animal behaviour or have been working with animals.

We recommend you spend approximately 110 hours of your time studying for the IACE Award in Advanced Animal Behaviour. The pace of study is completely up to you. To give an example, if you dedicate 2 hours a week to the course it would take you a year to complete but if you could spare 4 hours a week you could complete it in six months.

Unit 1 – The Nervous System. Unit 2 – Nervous System in Action. Unit 3 – Vision. Unit 4 – Brains. Unit 5 – Altruism. Unit 6 – Sexual Selection. Unit 9 – Monogamy and Polygyny. Unit 10 – Acting Optimally. Unit 11 – Ethogram.

This course is marked through a process of continuous assessment guided by your tutor. This means that your qualification will be awarded according to your performance on assessments rather than by taking an exam.

Assessment takes the form of question papers (nine in total) and report writing (three in total). There is also an optional observation in module three.
