- those currently employed as veterinary nurses but not ready for

- those looking more broadly about job opportunities in the animal
welfare sector
The role of an ANA is to assist qualified staff in the general
husbandry and care of patients **.
ANAs may play an active role in the day to day running of the
practice including reception and client communication.
Modules include:
- anatomy and physiology
- basic animal nursing assistance
- companion animal anaesthesia and fluid therapy
- deliver basic treatment to animals
* The student must also hold GCSE English language and mathematics
at grade C or functional skills level 2 in maths and English.
** Students and qualified ANAs are not permitted to carry out
Schedule 3 procedures under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.
End Qualification:
ABC Level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants (ANA)
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
Students must be at least 16 years old.
Progression from this course:
This course is a recognised qualification
for alternative entry onto the RCVS Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary
Nursing *.
* The student must also hold GCSE English language and mathematics
at grade C or functional skills level 2 in maths and English.
