This course is designed for people with suitable Level 3 qualifications working in the early years environment.

The foundation degree is run over a 2 year period, with a wide range of modules to study. 700 hours work placement will be an essential part of the programme.

Year 1 modules include:
- Learning skills in HE
- Understanding the work sector
- Introduction to research awareness
- Developing individual
- Holistic Approaches to Childhood
- Sociology of Childhood
- Work based learning 1

Year 2 modules include:
- Safeguarding children
- Managing childcare practices
- Special Needs
- Working with children, young people and families
- Curriculum in the early years

This course can be studied full or part time.

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

- Applicants must be aged 18 or over
- Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years proven relevant work experience and be able to arrange to spend two days a week in an early years setting.
- Applicants must have relevant Level 3 qualifications
- Level 2 English qualification (GCSE, GCE grade C or above, CSE grade 1 or level 2 adult literacy)
- CRB check

Assessment:

Modular and work based assessments.

Progression from this course:

Students have the option to top up through Anglia Ruskin University to a full BA (Hons) Degree. Recognised by the Department for Education and Skills (DFES) and for those working in the early years field carries with it a senior practitioners title. Associated careers are within nursing, schools, and the early year's environment. This course can also be used as a steppingstone to a full-degree in relevant subjects.

Course Costs:

Tuition fees for 2013-14 are as follows: Full-time - £6500; Part-time - pro rata (usually 50% of full-time fee).
