Who is this course for?

This programme is for learners who have completed Entry Level 1 qualifications and wish to progress on to vocational training.

What will I do on the course?

Learners will develop an understanding of working life through a series of vocational modules and develop their personal life skills together with reading, writing and ICT. Vocational modules may include:
  • Health and safety
  • Personal presentation
  • DIY
  • Cookery
  • Media Skills
  • Animal Care
  • Horticulture
  • Performing arts
  • Travel & Tourism
  • Health & Social Care
  • Retail.

How long does the course last?

One year - full-time

What could I do after completing the course?

On successful completion of Routes to College, learners can progress onto a number of vocational areas where they will work towards Entry 3 qualifications in a specific vocational area. These include:
  • Routes to Animal Care
  • Routes to Horticulture
  • Routes to Health & Social Care
  • Routes to Catering & Hospitality
  • Routes to Hair & Beauty
  • Routes to Construction
  • Routes to Motor Vehicle Mechanics.

Are there any additional costs?

Learners may be required to purchase minor items of personal equipment during the course. In addition there may be extra-curricular trips which have an additional cost, but these are not compulsory for completion of the course. Prices and details will be discussed at interview. Bursary funds may be available to help with additional costs.
