The Technology Foundation Programme (TFP) is a programme of study designed to engage and develop students in the relevant subject matter, pitched at the right level, to give them the skills and knowledge required for progression to a MarTec (Maritime and Technology Faculty) undergraduate programme.
It is available to those students who may not have been quite as successful in their GCSEs/A levels or vocational qualifications as they would have liked, and are committed to pursuing a university pathway. The TFP is also suitable for mature students who have been in employment and wish to re-engage with higher education.

At the start of the programme you will be expected to register for
a specific degree course that you will join on successful
completion, although there may be the flexibility to transfer later
in your studies.
The course provides you with a practical and group-based approach
to learning, which forms a firm foundation for further study or
work. A degree-related project allows you to focus on the knowledge
and skills associated with your chosen degree specialism.
Industrial focus
The programme provides access to degree courses designed to prepare you for employment. The practical nature of the course equips you with the skills required for planning your future study and career options.
Course content
Year 1
The programme consists of four units:
- Group Technology Project
- Information and Analysis
- Technology Concepts and Processes
- Degree-related Project.
Projects/work experience
Mix of presentations, portfolios, written reports and examinations.
