This course enables you to work with children, young people and families and is suitable if you want to develop your professional skills and knowledge to achieve a higher academic qualification in this profession.
The course covers all aspects of the common core of skills and knowledge for the Children's Workforce 2010 and the every child matters agenda. You also study interprofessional modules with students from other health and social care disciplines, such as social workers, nurses and midwifes. This shared learning experience contributes to developing team working skills and understanding the contribution different professionals make.

placements in a variety of statutory and voluntary sector settings,
such as family centres, schools and health care. This is a crucial
element of the course and provides opportunities for you to
• learn from skilled professionals
• to develop values, skills, knowledge and practice competence
• put into practice the theory you are taught in University
You are encouraged to develop and link theory and practice in order to support your continuing educational and professional development.
We normally base teaching in our modern, £13 million, purpose-built Robert Winston Building on the Collegiate Crescent Campus where you have access to our learning centre which combines PCs, library and media resources, a range of study spaces, and learner support.
