The course introduces theoretical and practical perspectives in the study of sport and locates their place in culture, community and political life.
It provides you with critical insights and develops your creative thinking and reflective practice. This enables you to build up a set of perspectives and tools to become an accomplished academic of social and cultural studies in sport, and bring positive change to sport in the community. It is this approach that distinguishes the course from other sport-related masters courses.
The course is relevant to people from academic backgrounds who wish to pursue this area for further study and research. It is also suitable for sports and cultural industries practitioners seeking a wider understanding of social, economic and political issues and their effect on sports policy, process and practice.
Full-time study attendance – 12 months. Two taught modules per semester followed by a dissertation. The taught modules are delivered on one day a week.
Part-time study attendance – minimum of 24 months, maximum of 60 months. Attendance is tailored to your needs where possible. Taught modules are followed by a dissertation. The taught modules are delivered on one day a week.

We have carried out research funded by organisations including The British Council, The British Academy, The Football Foundation and the Home Office.
