Childcare Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship

The aim of this qualification is to prepare learners to work with children between birth and 5 years of age, with knowledge of children up to seven years.

This apprenticeship is for people who work with children – from birth to seven-year-olds (and their families) – in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development.

Workers in this area make sure that children are looked after, kept active, happy and nourished. They also help children develop social and practical skills.
This apprenticeship gives you a fulfilling opportunity to work with children and young people while also gaining an understanding into the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of your development. Equally, it ensures you can put childcare theory into practice.

You are allocated an assessor who will plan and assess your work. A portfolio of evidence is built by the student with guidance from the assessor.

Individual learning targets are set at the beginning of the course. You receive regular feedback on your progress throughout your course. You are required to have regular meetings with your assessor where targets will be reviewed within every 10 weeks. You are internally assessed by a range of methods, including direct observation within the workplace.

The elements of the apprenticeship are:

• Diploma in Early Years Educator (EYE)
• Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT
• Employee Rights and Responsibilities

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods. This could include direct observation within the workplace, a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task set.

Some learning outcomes within this qualification will require assessment in a real work environment.

Assessments are carried out by a qualified competent assessor who will help support you and your employer in achieving your qualification.
It gives you the essential knowledge you need to enhance your performance in the workplace.

You gain a recognised qualification and relevant work experience. You develop your skills knowledge and skills relating to early years aged 0–7.

There are no entry requirements for this course. Upon application you will be invited in for an interview and an initial assessment to make sure that the course is right for you.

There are no other restrictions to becoming an apprentice except that you need to be over the age of 16 and to have been settled in the UK for at least the past three years.

You need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours per week and be at least 16 years old. If you do not have employment then please contact us – we might be able to help you in your job search.

On successful completion of the course you can progress to courses in a variety of different qualifications while increasing skills and building confidence in the workplace practices.

- nursery assistant
- pre-school assistants
- care assistants or assistant youth workers
