The Programme
This construction course provides the practical skills and knowledge required to successfully embark upon a progression route in college or a career in the construction industry as a Site Carpenter. The focus is based on the practical skills and underpinning knowledge required in the construction industry. There are eight units including: Health and Safety; Knowledge of Information Level 3; Building Methods and Technology Level 3; plus the main wood occupations units: Carry Out First Fixing Operations; Carry Out Second Fixing, Erect Complex Structural Carcassing Components; Maintain Non-Structural and Structural Components; and Set Up and Use Fixed and Transportable Machinery. All units will be assessed for knowledge by question and answer on our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system. Synoptic practical assessments will take place to check that you have acquired the strict criteria in practical activities. Functional Skills in English, Maths, ICT, tutorials and effective thinking skills will be included in the programme content.
The Programme Content
There are eight units including health and safety, Knowledge of information Level 3, building methods and technology Level 3 plus the main wood occupations units, carry out first fixing operations, Carry out second fixing, erect complex structural carcassing components, maintain non-structural and structural components and set up and use fixed and transportable machinery. All units to be assessed for knowledge by 'question and answer' on our Virtual Learning Environment system. Entry Requirements
Completion of the Level 2 course in Site Carpentry is mandatory and work experience is strongly recommended.

There will be costs of £30 for materials*.

Progression
Full completion of the qualification will allow you to progress to an Apprenticeship (NVQ Diploma Level 3 in Site Carpentry), the Architecture, Surveying and the Built Environment BTEC Subsidiary Diploma or other higher education courses.
