The Programme
This course focuses on the development of knowledge, understanding and practical skills necessary for employment in the public services, providing career development and offering progression to higher education or further training in the public services sector. The course covers areas such as Government policies and the public services; leadership and teamwork; citizenship; diversity and the public services; understanding discipline; physical testing and training for the uniformed public services; physical preparation and health. Relevant guest lecturers and trips/visits to relevant uniformed public service providers are integrated into the programme so that learners gain a range of public service related experiences during their programme.
The Programme Content
This is a full time course. A very diverse programme, practical based with opportunities to work with the armed services and emergency services on look at life and work experience. Assessment is by assignment related work and is ongoing (no exams). Residentials, competitions, guest speakers, trips and visits all form part of this qualification.
Entry Requirements
Candidates must have one of the following in order to enrol onto
this course, a Merit profile (or above) in a BTEC Level 2 Diploma
or similar; or a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above, with a
grade D in English or Level 1 Functional Skill in
Communication.
Costs
Costs will also be applicable for an annual residential, transport for trips/outdoor activities and clothing. These will be discussed at the interview.

Tiverton, Main Site
Progression
On completion of this course students often go into the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Army or one of the blue light emergency services. Other learners progress to higher education in related subjects.
Length of Study
If you are successful on the one year Diploma you will have access to continue onto the two year Extended Diploma.
Academic Year
This course starts in the 2013 / 2014 academic year.
