The Uniformed Services, Leadership, Physical Preparation,
Expedition Skills, Human Behaviour, Citizenship, Diversity in the
Public Services, International Perspectives, Data Interpretation,
Understanding the Public Sector, Law & the Legal System, Health
and Fitness, Nautical Skills, Signals and Communication, Teamwork
in the Public Services, Criminology, Dealing with Accidents,
Discipline in the Public Services. Also, varying speakers and trips
to service establishments, adventure training, mock entry
assessment days and sponsored challenges.
Functional Skills Certificates: ICT.
Physical Training: Is designed to help students increase their
levels of fitness in order to ensure they have the ability to
successfully participate in a Uniformed Services fitness test. This
will include running, circuit training and fitness training in a
weights room. There will also be many opportunities to participate
in team activities.
Other Opportunities (depending on availability): A week's adventure
training is held each year in places such as Wales and abroad.
Students are encouraged to attend. Visiting Service speakers/visits
to Service establishments. Inter-group competitions.
Visits to Service establishments may include local fire, police,
ambulance stations, police firearms, Wymondham Police HQ,
Colchester Garrison (Army), Wayland Prison, RAF Marham, RAF
Honington, Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, HMS Bristol in
Portsmouth and HMS Belfast.
Overnight Exercises: Exercises involving all students take part
periodically at, for example, RAF West Raynham, Thetford Forest,
Thorpe Woodland and local areas. This will include the Go Ape high
ropes course.
Visits abroad on adventure training such as Ardeche in France may
also be available.
Guest speakers from various members of the public service
professions.

End Qualification:
Extended diploma courses have 3 achievement points: you will work towards the subsidiary diploma qualification in the first year of the course and will have the opportunity to work towards either the diploma or the extended diploma in the second year.
Entry Requirements:
Interview required
External applicants require 5 GCSEs at grade A-C (including English). Internal applicants require a First Diploma in Public Services at Merit standard.
Assessment:
Assessment is based on continuous appraisal of performance in the various components. Course work execution, group work contribution and fulfilment of practical assignments.
Progression from this course:
Successful students will possess the ideal profile for direct entry into a branch of the uniformed services. Appropriate level of qualification will enable progression to various higher education courses / university.

Course Costs:
All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. All students are expected to pay an initial £60 start-up fee that covers a course t-shirt, 2 PT shirts and shorts, and a 24 hour outdoor induction visit. Additional costs come from forces visits and adventure training in the region of £200 over the academic year.
Additional Information:
If you are aged 19 or over, you may be eligible to apply to the college's learner support fund for financial support with the costs associated with your studies.
