You take part in team-building exercises during residential camps and may undertake GCSEs in either English or maths. Everyone does functional skills so you have the opportunity to achieve a qualification. You also need to participate in voluntary community work as part of the citizenship unit.

This diploma is based on continuous assessment. This qualification consists of six units - each is marked and assessed as coursework. Practical work and training play a large part in the course. Residential periods are mandatory and provide the opportunity to link theory with practice.

Types of learning activities include group work practical activities and putting learning into practice. Visits and residential trips are an important part of the course and carry an additional cost payable when you start. You may be required to do weekend and evening activities. We also have visits from uniformed public services professionals so you can gain from their experience firsthand.

You will gain a good understanding of the work and the roles of the uniformed public services and the qualities you need to join a service. Leadership qualities and teamwork are a focus of the qualification.

You will need:
• at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above and/or a completed Level 1 award
• GCSEs to include English and maths at grade D or above or Level 1 functional skills qualifications
• the willingness to study for an additional qualification in English and/or maths

If you are interested in a Level 2 programme and have alternative qualifications please contact us with your details. Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.

The uniformed public services and other related employers look extremely favourably on this qualification and course. Alternatively, you might want to think about continuing your studies on the Extended Diploma in Public Services.
