The Programme
This course aims to prepare you for a wide variety of careers in public services including the Police Force, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, HM Customs, RNLI, Prison Service, the Armed Forces and Rescue Services. It is also a really varied course that offers physically active learners who are unsure of their future a real diverse range of learning and experience. The units include Uniformed Public Services Employment, Public Service Skills, Uniformed Public Service Fitness, The Value of Sport and Recreation in the Public Services, Land Navigation with Map, Compass and Expedition Skills. You will be given the opportunity to develop leadership skills, teamwork, fitness and self confidence. We are looking for learners who are interested in a public service, are enthusiastic, have a positive work ethic and are able to smile even when they may be wet and muddy. If you are successful at attaining the Extended Certificate you may have the opportunity to complete the Diploma.
The Programme Content
A course which offers young people the opportunity to study towards a Uniformed Public Service investigating the aspects of entry requirements, levels of fitness, discipline and teamwork ethic. Students will be challenged through a number of assessments in order to achieve this Diploma in Uniformed Public services. A challenging course that will test students both mentally and physically in all winds and weather. Students need to be prepared for a full time course which includes assessment points in essay writing, presentations both individually or as part of a group, observation and discussion groups. It is essential that students are prepared to give this course 110% effort both physically and mentally, and mirror what will be expected of them in a uniformed public service.
Entry Requirements
Four GSCEs at grade E or above, including English and Maths.
Costs
There will be a chance to buy a Petroc sports kit. Personal outdoor kit will also be essential such as walking boots, a full set of waterproofs and a rucksack. A one off payment is made at the beginning of the course and helps towards small residentials and transport costs*.

Progression
On completion students often enlist into the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Army or one of the emergency services. Others go into civilian employment or progress to the Level 3 course at Petroc.
