The Programme

The modules all relate to Performing Arts, but some are aspects that may be new to you. You may study movement; rehearsal and performance; physical theatre; contemporary and classical theatre; musical theatre; stage management; performing arts business; devising drama; make-up; performing with masks; contemporary dance; and choreography as optional units. The main aim of the programme is to cover theatre productions which have a drama, dance or musical theatre flavour. Students rehearse and perform in, crew, and organise these productions. You will paint and construct sets and props and in some cases light and provide sound and music for the shows while being advised and supported by staff.

The Programme Content

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade C or above (preferably including English) and evidence of previous performance. You will be auditioned as well as interviewed.

Costs

There will be a studio fee of £30 per term (£90 per year) to cover the cost of essentials such as costumes, sets, lights, theatres, etc. You will probably want to invest in make-up to support your own performance needs. There may also be additional costs which will be advised.

Progression

In the past, students have progressed to higher education at establishments such as E15, Central School of Speech and Drama, LIPA, Rose Bruford, Oxford Stage School and Bath Spa University to study acting, dance, musical theatre, dance and production. We offer foundation degrees at Petroc Barnstaple so you can continue performing to a higher level without the stress and financial hassle of leaving home. Some students in the past have gone straight into the profession (local and national performances, as a theatre technician, etc). Several have acted in television whilst studying at college.
