Description

This course is for students who are interested in performing arts and it will develop his/her creative skills through the medium of acting, dance and movement skills, singing and voice skills, musical theatre and an introduction to back stage roles.

This is a practical course which will include live performances. You will study a core of subjects covering the knowledge and skills required for performing arts including acting, dance and movement skills, singing and voice skills, musical theatre and an introduction to back stage roles. Evening and weekend rehearsals and performances will be involved. Students will also follow other subject related qualifications with this course.

BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 2)

Entry Requirements:

Interview required

4 GCSEs at grade D or above, preferably including English and Drama. Alternatively, successful completion of a BTEC level 1 diploma at merit grade is also acceptable. You will be required to successfully pass an interview and audition with a demonstration of enthusiasm and commitment towards the subject area. Individual cases will be considered on their own merits.

Assessment:

The course is project/assignment based and assessment is continuous throughout the course. Some units will be subject to external assessment. Each unit will be assessed and awarded with a final grade of pass, merit or distinction.

Progression from this course:

The course is equivalent to four GCSEs grade A* - C. Successful completion of this course (at merit grade), will allow you to progress to the two year Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting, Dancing and Singing) or the Extended Diploma in Production Arts (Sound, Lighting, Stage Management and Set Design). You may also be able to go directly into employment connected with the entertainment industry and the skills gained on the course, open up opportunities in many careers as you gain self confidence and presentation skills.

Course Costs:

All students on full-time courses will need to pay a materials / resources fee. Details will be provided before enrolment. If you are under 19 on 31st August in the year you begin your programme, you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees for your course. For students aged 19 or over, there will be a tuition fee (depends on the course) for each year of the course as well as a registration fee (which includes exam fees). However, many students will be eligible for reduced fees and / or financial support towards the costs. Click here for detailed information. Students will also be required to purchase dance uniform and clothing as required, you will be informed at interview.
