ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2 and Level 3 in Engineering combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding and practical skills gained in the college classroom and workshops. We currently offer the following:

  • Performing Engineering Operations. Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering: The programme includes using and interpreting engineering data and operating CNC machines.
  • Fabrication and Welding: The programme includes fabrication and welding, manual welding techniques, thermal cutting techniques and understanding Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).

ApprenticeshipsNI Level 2 and Level 3 in Engineering combines the practical hands-on experience of the workplace with the knowledge and understanding and practical skills gained in the college classroom and workshops. We currently offer the following:

  • Fabrication and Welding: The programme includes fabrication and welding, manual welding techniques, thermal cutting techniques and understanding Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).
  • Engineering Maintenance and Installation: The programme includes carrying out fault diagnosing and maintenance activities on equipment.

How do I join? You must be in paid employment at least 21 hours per week including college day release. You are likely to be employed as one of the following: Maintenance Craftsperson Machinist/Toolmaker Welder/Plater/Fabricator Engineering Assembly. You must be aged 16-24. Applicants aged 25 + may apply but reduced funding at 50% applies. You must have at least 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above or other relevant qualifications. GCSEs must include Maths and a science/ science related subject. Complete an application form and attend an interview. Take part in an aptitude test (if applicable).

What will I study? An ApprenticeshipsNI Framework which consists of: A competence based element NVQ Level 2 Diploma in the following: Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering; Fabrication & Welding; Engineering Production; Engineering Manufacture; Engineering Maintenance & Installation; Engineering Installation & Commissioning; Electrical & Electronics. A knowledge based element - BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Engineering (Edexcel); City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Engineering. •BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Engineering. Employment Rights and Responsibilities Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR) are a compulsory part of all Apprenticeship programmes that show that the apprentice has had a full induction to the employing company and training programme, and is aware of the essential workplace rights and responsibilities. Essential Skills Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and ICT (if applicable).

What support is available while I am on the course? You will be allocated a personal tutor to help you throughout the course. The college also offers learning support and guidance.

How can I succeed on this programme? Punctuality and 100% attendance at your vocational day release and Essential Skills (if applicable). Demonstrate commitment to your course. Appropriate behaviour and maturity. Ability to work with others. Demonstrate a mechanical / technical aptitude. Possess problem solving skills. Be precise and accurate and be able to follow instructions. Safety conscious.

What will I gain? ETCAL NVQ Diploma Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations. Relevant Level 2/3 Diploma- Technical Certificate- City & Guilds/BTEC etc. City & Guilds Essential Skills Numeracy/Literacy, ICT (if applicable). ApprenticeshipsNI Full Framework certificate. NVQ Diploma Level 3 (Choice of Pathway.)

Employers There is NO COST to the apprentice or the employer for ApprenticeshisNI training. The only cost to the employer is the apprentices salary. An Employer Financial Incentive is available on achievement by the Apprentice of full Level 2 and/or Level 3 Framework. This incentive ranges from £250 to £1,500 depending on the complexity and level of apprenticeship undertaken. There is reduced funding for those apprentices aged 25+.

Assessment Methods

Continuous assessment throughout the course of practical workshop and theory tasks. Evidence of competency can be obtained through observations in the workplace, physical products of work, reports, plans, photographs, online assessments, witness testimony, discussion and questioning.
