Description

A follow on course to the Level 1 Welding, Fabrication & Blacksmithing course. This one year course will further develop the skills in welding and fabrication and blacksmithing learnt on the Level 1 course.

You will study for a City and Guilds Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) Level 2. In this second year students will also cover the course content of the NPTC Level 2 Certificate in Forgework and those that have achieved the required standard will be entered for the exam that leads to this qualification.

A final craft item is produced and shown at the College Open Day.

Qualification

City and Guilds Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations

Course Content

Arc and MIG welding
Introduction to TIG welding
Safe use of tools
Use of the forge
Blacksmithing tools
Certificate in Engineering L2
Functional skills in numeracy and literacy.

3 days per week with and emphasis on practical skills development. Functional skills in literacy and numeracy will be developed - the level will depend on previous achievement. The courses consists of lectures, demonstrations, practical instruction and industrial visits.

Entry Requirements

Succesful completion of the Level 1 Welding, Fabrication and Blacksmithing course and a satisfactory reference from the Course Manager.
