There is high demand in illustration, graphic design and fine art to create hand-printed imagery for books, exhibitions, music promotion posters and festival marketing. Screenprint has a raw, hand-finished richness that makes promotional materials stand out from the crowd and for it to be sought after by collectors. Every print is original and often has miniscule flaws that demonstrates the hand-made ethic.

This course is suitable for those new to printmaking, anyone wishing to enrich a university or employment portfolio, illustrators trying a new medium or those who wish to undertake a refresher course in how to use vacuum beds, print equipment and how to expose their images on to a screen. It is a unique opportunity as you will be using advanced equipment in the vast print workshop at NTU which is equipped to expose large and smaller screens, whilst being taught by an experienced printmaker with years of screen printing and illustration experience. With only eight spaces available there will be plenty of one-to-one attention and space to work.

The course is very practical with some theory of the history of screenprinting to focus on at the start. You will learn how to create artwork appropriate to screenprinting, expose an image onto a screen, have a screen to use for the whole course and learn printing and machine methods. It is a technical, hands-on workshop from which you will leave with a variety of prints and experience of overlapping and colour layering.

The course will help you build a portfolio, develop your design and technical skills and is ultimately satisfying and fun. Because screenprinting is relatively inexpensive you will be inspired to continue to print at home.
