Is this course for me?

IT has fast become a part of our everyday working lives; we send emails, set up meetings and market ourselves for jobs using the internet and various software applications. Even our phones are equipped with fancy tools to make life easier! Wouldn’t it be nice to get a helping hand in understanding how, exactly, you can use IT to enhance your CV and make your life that little bit easier? This course does precisely that.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

You will need 1 GCSE to gain a place on the course. Mature applicants not meeting the above criteria are welcome to apply. An enthusiasm to achieve is essential and previous IT knowledge is recommended.

What does the course involve?

This one year course will give you the basic knowledge you need to work with IT in any sector. It will enable you to become safe online, to learn about various types of software and how to use them effectively, and to develop social and practical skills. You will undertake various modules, including*:
• Improving Productivity Using IT
• Set up an IT system
• IT Communication Fundamentals
• Using the internet
• Using Mobile IT devices
• Using Email
• Personal Information Management Software
• IT Software Fundamentals
• Audio, Video, Imaging and Presentation Software
• Using a computer keyboard
• Level 1 Award in Learning to Learn

You will also undertake Functional Skills and an Award in Supporting Employability and Personal Effectiveness, in order to make sure you leave college with the most recent and relevant qualifications.

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? On completion, you could progress onto a Level 2 IT course, or apply for a range of job roles.
