HND Fashion Design and Realisation (Full Time)
This course reflects the growing transition for home grown talent and manufacturing and the need for a deeper understanding of the design ethics and that go hand in hand with the global fashion industry.
The course will cover all aspects of a garment’s journey from design, pattern cutting, fabric sourcing and production through to marketing, promotion, brand awareness and styling. You will explore the design process, the fashion lifecycle, and the major environmental, cultural and social impacts associated with fashion. These topics will be delivered through a series of live briefs that will allow you to engage with and challenge current working practice.

will allow you to engage with and challenge current working
practice.
Course content
You will be introduced to a broad range of research methodologies and skills, including presentations, workshops and practitioner seminars which will support you in the completion of your coursework. You will also have the opportunity to engage in critical debate about your own working practice through one to one tutorials, online debate and discussion with peers. Your awareness of the fashion market will be developed, and you will be introduced to the concepts of market levels and positioning. You will also learn how to identify trends through fashion forecasting and understand how to use trends to support the development of your designs.

Through a series of contextual studies lectures you will appreciate historical and contemporary movements, designers and artists that have influenced fashion today; equipping you with the skills to understand and analyse the ethical, economic and business issues that affect the UK and global fashion industries. Throughout the course there will be numerous opportunities to engage with both local and international employers through our established portfolio of industry links.
Entry Requirements
2 A Levels or 4 AS Levels in either Art and Design, Graphics or Media, or a BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design or a Level 3 qualification in an art related subject such as a BTEC National Diploma. Portfolio of work is essential and needs to demonstrate a broad range of skills including design, drawing and photography. Mature students will be considered on an individual basis with a supporting portfolio.

Progression
Course graduates can progress into employment or onto a full honours degree by completion of one or two additional "top up" years depending on course applied for and student portfolio
