What will I study?

This is a demanding and exciting programme that requires you to immerse yourself in reading, thinking, discussion, reflection and writing, enabling you to take the next, critical step in your professional learning.

You will explore issues relating to STEM education, drawing on your own expertise and educational setting. The modular nature of the course allows you to develop your subject knowledge at a level appropriate to your needs, whether you are in a primary, secondary or tertiary education setting.

Modules

The range of modules on offer currently includes the following, with modules being developed all the time to meet changing need:

Core modules:

  • Developing STEM Education
  • Research in a Professional Context
  • Dissertation

Optional modules:

  • Human Resource Management in Education: A comparative perspective
  • Leading Learning Beyond the Classroom
  • Mentoring in an Educational Setting
  • Writing for Publication

Each module has an assignment attached to it that is linked to your own experience, applying theory and practice and ensuring that your own working practices gain practical benefits from your study.

How will I learn?

We offer a number of flexible ways to study:

  • Full-time and Part-time attendance at NTU
  • Blended learning
  • Our virtual online learning environment (NOW)
  • Distance learning
  • Modules taught at your own institution (by prior arrangement).

The programme content reflects the changing STEM education environment and is subject to regular review and development.

Study modes

Part-time attendance, at our Clifton campus, is usually one evening a week. Modules taught at NTU can on occasion be undertaken in your own institution by prior arrangement.

A full-time study mode is also available.

Assessment

Modules are assessed, there are no formal examinations. Students will also work on a number of different small scale research projects based in their work setting, literature review and a research based dissertation.
