Is this course for me?

This BTEC Level 2 Diploma Music is an access course to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma Music. It is intended for students who have either not achieved sufficient GCSE/Standard grades at school to start A Level/Higher Grades, or have not yet reached an intermediate level of playing guitar, bass, drums or vocals.

What qualifications or skills do I require to study this course?

To enrol on The Academy BTEC Level 2 Diploma Music, you will usually need to have achieved four GCSE/Standard Grades at Grade E or above. For your chosen instrument, you must also show a basic playing ability that will be assessed on an individual basis.

What does the course involve?

Each week,you will work towards improving your ability on your chosen instrument through instrument specific lessons (all Academy courses feature lessons on your own instrument to improve your technique and performance skills). These lessons will include Rock-school; Garage Band Prep and Notation. In addition, you will study subjects such as Rhythm & Pitch; Rehearsal Studies; Understanding Music and Exploring the Music Profession Every week, you will rehearse and perform as part of a live band, a wide range of popular music styles, such as rock, pop, funk, heavy rock, urban, Britpop, heavy metal, Emo, classic rock, ‘80s pop, country rock, soul and R&B. Furthermore, you will get a chance to specialise in your favourite genre by performing your own choice of songs at each End of Term Gig. All performances are video recorded, so you are able to evaluate your stage & musical skills as you progress throughout the course. You will also learn how to improvise as a musician through a weekly Band Improvisation Workshop. Course Duration & Qualification Details The Academy BTEC Level 2 Diploma Music is a one year course usually starting in September of an academic year. And consists of the following units of study: Core Units Professional Development in the Music Industry Planning and Creating a Music Product Working in the Music Industry Specialist Units Working as a Musical Ensemble Exploring Computer Systems Used By Musicians Producing a Musical Recording Developing as a Musical Perf

What option will be open to me if I successfully complete the course? Once the course has been completed there is the potential to progress onto Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music.
